For more than 25 years, the name Gregg
Hejna has been a fixture on the photography scene in
Kansas City.
Gregg began part time in his basement in
1980, photographing weddings part time and became a
full time photographer, moving into his first storefront
studio in1984. His current studio (his fourth) is a
full service studio located in the historical district
of Downtown Parkville, sitting along the Missouri River,
located just minutes from the center of Kansas City.
The studio, in a 118-year-old building (designated an
historical landmark and purchased by Gregg and his wife
in 1999) now photographs seniors, families and children,
but Gregg's first love still remains weddings.
The studio underwent a re-birth in 1999,
when, as Gregg puts it "I simply burned out. Everything
had become a struggle and I just felt we were getting
nowhere." At the suggestion of Wayne Haub, president
of H&H, Gregg contacted Jerry Bryan, nationally known
studio designer from San Diego.
""When we redesigned the studio," Gregg
says, "we had the opportunity to begin looking at things
in a totally different way. The possibilities seemed
endless"
The studio now has three full time employees
and four part time employees and, through Gregg's marketing
efforts, stays busy year 'round.
Gregg's studio was one of the early converts
to digital photography. "I bought one of the first S1's
to come out and I haven't looked back since." The studio
has been totally digital since early 2001 and has been
proofless since 2002.
Gregg is a much sought after speaker for
his expertise in wedding photography and album design
as well as his marketing and business skills and is
a regularly featured lecturer for H&H Color Lab's H&H
University.
A St. Louis native and die-hard baseball
fan, (please don't mention the Boston Red Sox). Gregg
lives in the northern suburbs of Kansas City with his
wife, Mary, a morning radio personality for KFKF-FM,
the number one rated country music station in Kansas
City. When he's not in the studio, Gregg can usually
be found in the kitchen pursuing his favorite hobby,
cooking. An avid vinophile, Gregg has an extensive wine
collection and is well known in local culinary circles
for this love and knowledge of wine. Their daughter,
Alexis, a student at Northwest Missouri State University,
is in her senior year pursuing a degree in broadcast
operations and management. She is currently the Production
Directory for KNWT, the campus television station. A
musician for 40 years, Gregg is currently at work on
his latest project, a set of royalty free music CDs
for wedding and senior slide shows he hopes to complete
in the fall of this year.
